How to use it
What this workbook does
This workbook prices your open roles. For each vacancy it estimates the value the role would have produced while open, subtracts the pay and benefits you are not spending, adds any coverage cost, and returns the net cost of leaving the role unfilled. It totals every open role and shows what cutting your time to fill would save. The value of a role is a judgment call, so the result is a baseline to size the issue, not a precise number.
Your first 15 minutesOpen the Time-to-Fill Cost Calculator workbook in Microsoft Excel or a free equivalent such as LibreOffice. The first tab, Start Here, walks you through every tab. On the Open Roles tab, set the two assumptions at the top: working days per year and benefits as a percent of salary. For each open role, enter the title, the annual salary, a value multiplier, the days open, and any coverage cost. Edit only the amber cells; the white cells calculate for you.
