From checkout to open files

Download help: getting your files open in five minutes

Every TrueStep HR product is an instant digital download that arrives as a ZIP file. This page walks the whole path: where the download link lives, how to open the ZIP on a computer or a phone, what is inside each pack, and what to do if anything gets stuck.

Short version: buy, click the download link at checkout or in your email receipt, save the ZIP on a computer, double-click to open it, and start with the Start Here file. Everything below is the detail.

Where your download link is

Two places, same link

Right after checkout

  • The order confirmation screen shows a download button the moment payment completes. Click it and the ZIP saves to your device.
  • No account is needed. The link is tied to your order, not a login.

In your email

  • Your email receipt carries the same download link, so you can come back to it any time or open it on a different device.
  • Cannot find the email? Search your inbox for truestephr. Check spam and promotions folders. Still nothing: email support@truestephr.com with the name on the order and the link is re-sent.

Opening the ZIP on a computer

The recommended path

A ZIP is a normal folder that has been compressed for delivery. Windows and Mac both open it with nothing extra installed.

Windows

  • 1. Click the download link and let the ZIP save (usually to your Downloads folder).
  • 2. Right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All, then Extract.
  • 3. A regular folder appears with everything inside. Open the Start Here file first.

Mac

  • 1. Click the download link and let the ZIP save to Downloads.
  • 2. Double-click the ZIP. It unpacks into a folder next to it.
  • 3. Open the folder and start with the Start Here file.

Tip: work from the extracted folder, not from inside the ZIP preview. Extracting first means your edits and saves behave normally.

On a phone or tablet

Fine for reading, better on a computer for editing

You can open and read everything on a phone. For filling in trackers and editing templates, a computer is the comfortable path, so if you bought on your phone, forward the receipt to yourself and open it at a desk later. The link keeps working.

iPhone and iPad

  • 1. Tap the download link. Safari saves the ZIP to the Files app (look in Downloads).
  • 2. Tap the ZIP in Files and it unpacks into a folder.
  • 3. PDFs open with a tap. Word and Excel files open in the free Word and Excel apps or in Pages and Numbers.

Android

  • 1. Tap the download link. The ZIP lands in your Downloads.
  • 2. Open it with the Files app and tap Extract.
  • 3. PDFs open with a tap. Word and Excel files open in the free Microsoft apps or in Google Docs and Sheets.

What is inside each pack

The same layout every time

Every pack follows the same structure, so once you have opened one you know them all. The exact file list for any product is on its product page, and it matches the download file for file.

Always there

  • A Start Here guide: open this first. It says what is inside, the order to work in, and the first step to take.
  • The guides as PDFs: finished documents for reading and printing. They open in any PDF reader.
  • A product license: what your purchase covers, in plain language.

Where the product calls for them

  • Templates as Word files (.docx): editable documents you adapt to your company.
  • Trackers and calculators as Excel files (.xlsx): workbooks with the formulas already built. Most also work in Google Sheets, and packs that benefit from it include a short Sheets note.

What you need to use the files

Nothing exotic

You are covered if you have

  • Microsoft Word and Excel (2016 or later, or Microsoft 365), or
  • Free equivalents: LibreOffice on a computer, or Google Docs and Google Sheets in a browser.
  • Any PDF reader: the built-in viewer in your browser is enough.

Worth knowing

  • If Excel opens a workbook in Protected View, click Enable Editing in the yellow bar. That is Excel being careful with downloaded files, not a problem with the workbook.
  • Google Sheets: upload the .xlsx to Google Drive, then open with Sheets. Formulas in the trackers are built to survive the trip.

If something is not working

The three common snags
  • The download email never arrived. Search for truestephr, check spam and promotions. If it is not there, email support@truestephr.com from any address with the name on the order, and the link is re-sent.
  • The ZIP will not open. Make sure the download finished completely (a partial download looks broken), then try again from the link. On Windows, if double-clicking does nothing, right-click and choose Extract All. Still stuck: email support and the files are sent another way.
  • The link stopped working or you lost it. Links can expire after heavy use as an anti-abuse measure. Email support with your order name and a fresh link comes back. You always get the current version of the files, including any updates released since you bought.

Support is support@truestephr.com. Real replies within one business day, usually faster.

Open the Start Here file first

Every pack opens the same way: the Start Here guide says what is inside, the order to work in, and the one thing to do first. Give it five minutes and the rest of the pack falls into place.
